Spring Spree
Join your neighbors on Saturday, May 19 (Rain date June 2) between 11:00 am and 2:00 pm on New Scotland Avenue between South Manning Boulevard and Quail Street. We will welcome Spring, and showcase our business members, library, fire station and schools along New Scotland Avenue.
This event, held each spring (we skipped last year) will offer fun activities for children and adults, including a “trivia treasure hunt,” music, promotions, information tables, face painting, and a raffle for gifts from our New Scotland Businesses.

Neighborhood Plant Swap
Saturday, April 19, 9:00 am– 10:00 am, rain or shine. The exchange happens on the corner of Lawnridge and Helderberg (on the Helderberg side). Include care instructions for the plant you are swapping. Please – NO INVASIVE PLANTS!
If you don’t have a plant to swap, but would like to get a plant, we’ll accept a small donation, which will go to HNA.

Topic: Albany Codes
This Albany city department checks homes and businesses for any safety issues. The speaker is going to talk about how codes becomes involved, what they look for, how the codes folks are trained (I think all fire fighters in the city have been trained.) They handle cases like a resident who is a hoarder and their house is a potential fire trap; does inspections; enforces building permits, etc.

Topic: NIXLE emergency contact program
Albany Police Dept.’s new program for getting urgent messages out to residents, and also compiling information such as crime statistics for a specific area. It is brand new, and HNA and the New Scotland Woodlawn associations are the first to be registered for it, as it is being tested for general use. Once the testing period is over, anyone can sign up for it.

HNA Neighborhood Meeting
On Wednesday, February 8, from 7 – 8 pm, Dennis Gaffney, President of the Albany Public Library and an HNA resident, will discuss his new book, The Civil War: Seven Day Scholar Exploring History One Week at a Time. Dennis promises you will learn surprising things you never learned in school! This one hour presentation will be held at Sage College, Campus Center, room 105. It is free and open to the public, so bring a friend!
